Why fish for silver salmon?
Leave a comment on this page letting us know why you like fishing for silver salmon. On Saturday, July 14th we’ll pick our favorite answer and send its author a free Alaska Salmon Grand Slam T-Shirt.
Simple! We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
I love to catch silvers because by time they’ve come in, I’ve eaten all my fresh sockeye. And… they’ll take on the swing!
Begin with being outdoors, to the anticipation of the bite and feel of the run, then the fight leading to the adrenalin rush as you land the brute, and finally the good feeling of the release. It is an experience unlike others.
I would rather be Mining Silvers with a spey rod than with an excavator and an open pit.
Why fish for silver salmon? Because it’s fun to catch anything that just has a mean look in their eyes. Also you can catch them on the swing, by fast strips, by slow strips, drifting under an indicator, on the surface and in the deep. In fact you can catch them if you can get your fly off the land into the water.
Matt Thompson chimed in on Facebook – “Because they’re big and strong and love to hit big nasty bugs :-)”
Steven Holtzclaw on Facebook – “Love the fact that they take topwater flies with abandon!”
I love silvers cuz sometimes you have to drag them out of the brush from the other side of the river!
They bite, they fight, they jump in the air.
They love to chase gaudy clumps of feathers and hair.
With reckless abandon they attack what we throw,
They make guiding life easy don’t you know!
And after the day of running them down,
Back at camp Robert makes them better than any Pate’ around.
So if you haven’t chased them let it be known,
The Kanektok River is their favorite home!
Even though my 1st one came off of the Arolik
