You know things generally turn out well for a trip when you get a fish within the first 20 minutes on the water, and even better when you get three! So thinks Cam Groner, as he and the rest of Tom Larimer’s Dean excursion crew of 2011, including Tom, Pete Laskier, Cam, Cal Knight, Jim Passage, David Luthy, Bob Leippman and Dave Baca arrived to pristine conditions, clear waters, sunny skies and hot fish.
The first half of the week saw fishing in the upper and lower rivers run about equal, with each beat giving up a handful of fish a day to some. By week’s end, the upper came on strong with another big finish for the week. Fish rose well to dries but the follow up wet fly tactic put more on the beach for some reason – possibly continued higher than normal water, combined with very clear and often sunny conditions, put some shyness into the normally agro-aggressive Dean River fish.
