We welcomed our final group to BC West this week, as we have every year since our inception – our friends from Europe. There could not be a better group to have to wrap up a very busy season as our ‘Europeans’. They truly enjoy not only our famous steelhead, but everything that the Dean and British Columbia has to offer. They are just as happy catching any variety of fish as they are our steelhead. Their trip always begins with a day over on the Kimsquit to view the bears, catch a few fish from dollies to chum – they just enjoy the adventure of this day.
Once the boys head onto the Dean for their steelhead they are serious, but not too much so as not to take time to hunt for some mushrooms for B to cook up. This year’s fishing was very consistent with plenty of hook-ups, but the landing was a bit tougher. Our friend Heinz Knoll found this to be true his first few days, but on his fourth day he went 5 for 6, one being the biggest chrome steelhead that he has ever landed, anywhere in his travels. It was a beauty! The other anglers, Bernhard and Ernst, also did very well with their numbers this week.
As the week progresses we start our process of closing up the lodge, taking time to reflect on this year’s season and how consistent the fishing was this year. We thank all our guests and know that we will see many of you again next year.
