Our first group of the 2011 season included some old hands and a new ones. The water conditions for Brian Niska and crew were improving daily from what seemed like never ending spring freshet hitting all of the Westcoast at once in early June.
Once everybody got their bearings and some river legs, things started happening, first with a few Jack Springs, some exiting kelt Steelhead and then finally some steamer Chinooks. The single hand guys soon found the higher water more conducive to the spey rod and soon were hucking nice loops out of tight spots. A couple spoolings and some beefed up tippets finally put several 20-30lb class Chinooks on the beach, plus some early Steelhead, and several more shockingly feisty kelts. Twice in one week the boat came to the rescue as somebody ran out of beach and the only way to happiness was to chase it in the boat. Christian, Royce, Laurie, Brian and Darby all wrapped up week one with a smile and good times.
