Thanks for being a part of it. Photo: Louis Cahill P.S. It was cold that day.

2010 was a year of huge growth for our web site and newsletter.  We’re really humbled by the number of folks who love fly fishing like we do, who choose to read the stuff we write, and participate too!  Thanks for coming by – we really mean it.

We added a lot of new readers this year and it’s been a while since we’ve asked the question.  We want to write what you want to read.  So…

What Do You Want From Us?

  • More fishing tips?
  • More guest posts?
  • More pictures?
  • Less of anything?
  • More gear reviews?  OK, which gear?
  • Fishing reports?
  • More videos?
  • What else?

We want to write what you want to read. Please take a minute to leave us a comment, and let us know what you’d like to see us cover.

Thanks so much.  We wish you all the best in 2011!

    What I want…
Okay, I want an active site, one that posts blogs, short tips, or updates regularly. One that, when I come home from a day at work, I can pull this site up and see something new. Doesn’t matter which of the four lodges posts, something new is always appreciated.
I also love the tips. What Kirk Deeter presented in the Little Red Book tips, that was good. The series on mending was also good. For me, the book is never closed. I feel that I can always learn something new about the art of fly fishing. Always a nuance I need to understand further, always an angle I hadn’t thought of.

By the way. It wouldn’t bother me one bit if you threw up a few “what your weekly schedule at XXXX would look like” or, “what to carry with you when you’re fishing XXX” You did that already for bonefishing at Andros, something similar for other types of fishing, other locations, that would be nice. Always gives me more ideas when I see what a guide recommends.

I like the pictures of Chile and BC. I almost always skip right over the salt/sunny beach content. Everything else about your blog is pretty good and I read it every week.

I really enjoy everything you discuss about Alaska- salmon, rainbows, dollies.
Discussions on flies, techniques, how to fish each species, times of the year, etc. is very helpful.
    Pictures, videos are great too.
I don’t know if you can do this, but more on the river videos would be neat.
I appreciate all your time and effort with this newsletter. I know it will help me be a better fisherman in Alaska, especially the Southwest.
I look forward to this every week.
Thank you and keep up the good work!

Ed – thanks for the input and the good word, as always.
Samuel – thanks for weighing in – we’ll get you converted to the warm stuff one of these days!
Mike – actually our guys aren’t secretive at all. Let me know if there are specific patterns that you’re interested in and I’ll get them posted.
Bob – really appreciate the comments. We’ll work on more on river videos for sure.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to comment.

I have a two piece 6wt Sage rod.
I’m thinking of getting a good 6 wt or 7 wt travel rod. I’ve considerd 4 and 7 piece rods but lean toward the four piece rod. The 7 piece rod just has mor joints that can go bad and I wonder about the rod action.

My friend, a fishing guide, suggests a 7wt salt water rod that could be used for trout, bonefish and bass. What do you think.
    Thanks

    James

    Hi James,

Although I wouldn’t worry too much about the action or the ferrules on a modern 7-piece travel rod, I feel like a 4 piece rod is compact enough for travel already…so if you’re got concerns about the 7 piece, I think you’ve got little to lose with going with a 4 piece.

If you’re getting one more rod and you want to cover trout, bonefish and bass, I think a 7 weight would be a good compromise. It might be a little light for some bonefish and a little heavy for some trout, but I’m sure it could get the job done just fine!

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Andrew
