Nice to Meet You.

Whatcha doin' next summer?
Whatcha doin' next summer?

Hi there.

I’m a leopard rainbow trout.  I live in the Kanektok River in Southwest Alaska.  Let me tell you a little about myself.

I’m not as big as lots of my brothers and sisters, but I’ve definitely got the family’s typical pink cheeks and mega-spots.

I like hanging out on shelves and dropoffs, around snags, behind spawning salmon and in that soft water on the inside bends.  Sometimes I relax in the super clear, skinny water of my river’s sidechannels.

My favorite foods include salmon flesh and eggs (all species), sculpins and leeches.  When I get a little bigger I hope to also feast on the occasional hapless rodent that falls in the river.

Winter’s awfully long where I live, so for those 3 months or so in the summer that my home river is filled with salmon, I’m guilty of some serious binge eating.

My life’s pretty good,  but I could use a little company.  Will you come play with me?
