On the Lower Dean River below the canyon, many of the runs that we fish for steelhead and chinooks are rippin’ fast. Dean fish are strong, so they hold in water where a lot of other critters can’t.
Just below the mouth of the canyon, however, is Eagle’s Nest – a giant bouldery glide that provides a nice breather for traffic headed upstream. This would be more typical holding water in lots of the steelhead world, and indeed Eagle’s Nest has been known to spit out a fish our two.
