Today we’re starting a very simple conversation – if you could take a fly fishing trip anywhere, where would you go?
Not many qualifiers here–
- It doesn’t cost you anything.
- You’re going for a week.
- You’re fly fishing for anything that you want to catch.
- Anywhere in the world.
So? Where in the world do you want to take a fly fishing trip? Leave us a comment and let us know.
Bjorn Stromsness says
Andros is way, way up there.
Christmas Island and the Seychelles are up there too (as long as there are no pirates).
Mongolia would be kind of awesome.
For trout, I’d love to have a whole week in Yellowstone as opposed to the few sporadic days I’ve managed to have there.
So many places, so many fish, so little time and money.
A McFerron says
1 Week is pretty tough… but in those parameters I’d want to go after Babine steelhead in September or October. These fish have a longer but comparably perilous journey in relation to the notorious Dean strain, producing similarly built/sized monstrosities of steelhead… Master Ward would be the fishing partner of choice.

The Dean!

New Zealand.

Chile West of course! 🙂

Two trips I would love to do:
A multi day float on the Grande Ronde / John Day / Deschuttes / or a BC river for steelhead. I did a smallmouth trip on the John Day a number of years ago and it was fantastic, just great to be outside 24 a day. I know money is no object in your question, but these trips are typically pretty reasonable.
Explore the Aluetian Islands on a live aboard boat. Doesn’t need to be anything fancy, but it would be great to be able to get to remote steelhead streams, catch salmon in freash and slat water, crab, etc.

Mmm, Kamchatka or I would love to down and fish in Tasmania (Just watched The Source, super intrigued by the lake fisheries down there).
Great question.
A twist on it, as written in Ted Leeson’s newest book is:
“Where would you fish if you only had one day left to fish in your life? Or, where would you fish if you could only fish one place for the rest of your life.”
Cheers
Sam

I love Andros South and the few days there carry me through the year, but still want to take down a tarpon and permit. If Deneki has it I will be there.
Bridget Ward says
Hands down the Kanektok River. My second choice would have to be Yellowstone.
Karl Kjellberg says
Any one of your lodges in Andros, Chile/Argentina or BC (again)
Russia if no problems with volcanic ash
The live aboard boat that fishes the Chile coast
Cuba (again)
A remote float trip in the northwest for salmon and trout

Terrace,BC…is there any question? For those who have been know why…and it’s not just about the KNOWN rivers.

Andros – simply beyond words at times.
Paul Sharman says
South Pacific all the way – liveaboard expedition checking out remote atolls and their flats.
Kimi Reid says
The Dean…if I am ever worthy. If not, I would return to the land of the beetle-sippin Truchas of southern Chile in one hot minute, or perhaps an exploratory trip somewhere off the map…but I sure do have a soft spot for those Ktok Chummies…under-rated Keta.

Anywhere they have 20lb steelhead & Atlantics, both having been eluding me for years.
Kris says
Austria or anywhere in east Europe.
jfwells says
While Chile is certainly enticing, I think my first choice would be Andros South. Have never fished for Bonefish, and given the climate, etc., there is a good chance my wife would want to come with me. While a week of fishing would be great, it is nice to have some family time as well.
Bill Arrants says
I would like to come back to Alaska West to relive the best fishing trips I have ever had. It is the best all around camp I have ever found. The best guides, food and really honest.
Mark Orlicky says
I’d love to go to Alaska West. The fish, the scenery, that camp… Ahhh, the stuff of fishing fantasies!

I would love a trip to the kanektok during the peak. The Babine for ripping, gulping, heafty steelies. Backwater Tarpon in the keys. Fishing drys for atlantic salmon. These days of 60 HR work weeks and weekend projects or time with my children, I would really just love a trip anywhere, even on my home waters of Oregon and Washington with a few close friends.
Steve says
Kamchatka

Kamchatka, Taimen in Mongolia, and my favorite tidewater on the kanektok and arolik for some slab bows sculpin or flesh????
