Line Winders

Yeah it’s thick, but it can still get tangled.
Photo: Cameron Miller

If you fish different parts of the world at different times of the year, you either own a whole boatload of reels or you regularly need to pull one fly line off a reel and slap on another one.  If you’re not in the ‘whole boatload of reels’ camp, you need a line winder.

Line winders are one of those purchases that often get put off.  No, a line winder is not really a ‘must-have’ accessory, but trust us– just buy one.  More times than we’d like to admit we’ve told ourselves that ‘it’s a fly line – how tangled can it get?’ The answer is really tangled, and you can save yourself a lot of time with a line winder.

Just do it.

I’ve owned one since I was a kid. The one my Dad gave me broke a few years back, so I replaced it with one made by Tibor – never looked back! Beauty is that the line comes off in big loops, and is easy to store. I’m always trying new stuff; couldn’t get along without one.
