Ahh… the Bahamas. Warm waters, sandy beaches, flats that stretch on forever, and did we mention BIG bonefish?! When it comes to being prepared to fish the flats of Andros, planning your outfits strategically will pay off in the long run.

Ladieswear in the fishing industry has really come a long way. We have the option to express ourselves through our gear. However, we still have a ways to go, so don’t be afraid to wear men’s gear! These are some of Liz Fincher’s favorites when it comes to chasing bones at Andros South.
TOPS:
For tops on the flats, we want to blend in, have sun protection & dry quickly! Many apparel companies offer hooded shirts. These are nice to keep your ears & neck from getting too much sun, without having to be covered in your buff the whole time.

Quick-drying with a UPF 50 rating, this hoody keeps you cool, covered & protected from the sun. Choosing colors that match the water, sky & sand ups your stealth level too!
BOTTOMS:
Bottoms also need to be able to dry fast, protect you from the sun & blend in. Some women prefer leggings with a skirt, others are more into wearing pants. It’s all your personal preference. Doctor flies (Andros horse flies) do tend to find you on the flats, so sometimes wearing loose-fitting pants help keep their prying little mouths off you a bit better. Be careful of wading with shorts or capris, between the flies & the tan lines, you’ll be wishing you had full coverage!

Breathable, quick-drying, and SPF 50+. These leggings have a fun design, while still maintaining a camouflage with the surrounding waters.

The guide skort from Simms is a great layer because you can wear it on or off the flats. Cute with or without leggings, it dries quickly & has shorts underneath so you don’t have to worry. UPF 50+ & anti-odor too!

A more loose fitting pant, neutral in color with a nice waistband capable of a belt. UPF 50+
ACCESSORIES:
Fingerless gloves or sun gloves with a UPF rating are a great choice for protecting yourself on the water.
It’s always good to bring two sets of Buffs with you, especially if you won’t be doing laundry during your trip. No one wants to be stuck smelling their old breath for a week!
Raingear is also a necessity. Especially for the boat rides. It’s never fun to start the day off soaking wet! A lighter, packable wading jacket/rain jacket is perfect.
Don’t forget your hat & sunglasses!!
